A genuine question.
Do people really look at how adolescent and pre-adolescent girls are incredibly prone to anxiety, eating disorders, self-esteem problems and self-mutilation, the depression usually caused by all of the above, how girls report that their first thought about their weight was before 12 years old, and think that all of this just comes out of nowhere? Do people really think that it has no connection to how our society treats girls? To how, from when they can comprehend visual information, they’re processing subconscious messages that say they are nothing more than their bodies , their beauty , their appeal? To how, the culture of social media is constantly saying “Look like this YouTube beauty guru, look like this model, like this actress” and then switch it around and say “No, girls dress like this because they want to.
