values.

When the word ‘values’ is mentioned before me, I immediately think of Justice or Injustice, Rights or Wrongs, Truth or Lies, Kindness or Rudeness. As a matter of fact, the dictionary definition of the word ‘values’ (in this context) is “principles or standards of behaviour; one’s judgement of what is important in life.” What is important in life. My friends, my family, my hobbies. Are these my values? The word value originated in 1300 BCE from 3 separate languages – Middle East, Latin and French. Simply put, they all boiled down to being strong and being worth something. To have a virtue. The human nature of strength is perhaps its oldest and most natural state. Even as palaeolithic beings, strength was one thing all of humanity could rely on. To be strong meant to be valuable, of worth to the rest. Because to be strong meant you could hunt, fish, gather, and survive.  Over the years, the meaning of the word strength evolved. Our life became easier, and strength stopped bei...

Strong Indian Women.

They are not given nearly enough credit, for laying down their lives, for pushing against British rule and for going to battle because they believed in this country and its people. They believed in liberty, in Indian rule; and they fought tooth and nail for it. They showed the world that Indian women are something to be in awe of. That we are something to be feared, to be revered. They were the supporting pillars of the fight - always out of sight, and yet without them, we never would have made it 74 years ago this night. They went through some of the worst events a person could go through, and yet they pushed forward because they knew, that in the end, it would all be worth it to see British rule overturned and to watch Bharat take back what was rightfully its. Let's be honest, they shaped this country and its future, and it is because of women like them that we are free. They were women of steel, with a fire in their eye, blood on their saree and a spark that could never die. Le...

Pronouns

Pronouns are words that refer to either individual talking (like you or me) or a person or thing that is being discussed (like she, they, and this). Gender pronouns (like he or them) explicitly refer to individuals that you are discussing.  You can't always know what somebody's pronouns are by taking a look at them. She/her/hers and he/him/his are a couple of usually used pronouns. Some call these "female/feminine" and "male/masculine" pronouns, yet many stay away from these labels in light of the fact that not every person who uses "he" feels like a "male" or "masculine."  There are also lots of gender-neutral pronouns in use.  It is also important to know that your pronouns do not portray your gender identity or expression. Someone who identifies as a girl may still use they/them pronouns for their own personal reasons. People may also use multiple pronouns that they are comfortable with like he/they, he/she/they, or she/xe/...

Reputation

TW: mentions of sexual assault and rape He kept on asking her. She kept saying no. And because no is apparently not an answer, he grabbed her wrist. She pulled away, and he yells "B*tch!". Because saying no is wrong. Why would she say "no" to him, a person she doesn't like, doesn't know?  She opened up about her experience. She talked about how he assaulted her, and what did she get? A slap on the cheek. A reputation. A name. Sl*t. because even though she didn't ask for it, she fought against it, its still her fault right? And she shouldn't have talked about it because "what will they think of you?". Why is it never "what will they think of him?". She thought she was being careful. How wrong of her. How Naive. She trusted him. And yet, he took advantage of her. If you're not safe from people you trust, if you're not safe from people you don't trust, who are you safe from? She wasn't cautious enough, she was too tr...

double edged sword - no positive

"look down" "cover your head" "do your work so you can be wed" She had heard this countless times. Over and over,  as if that was all she was destined to do. a double-edged sword, with no positives to be seen, a woman AND a Dalit, fate surely gave her the short end of the stick, because being a victim of both, cast and patriarchy - isn't exclusive. because upper-caste feminists fight, but isn't this feminism all but skin-deep? for "Hamara Bharat" lives in 2 eras the cities in 2021, but the rest in 1980

Distraction From Feminism

Claiming that feminism is full of 'Women who don't fit beauty standards and thus make the movement invalid' is a 100% reason why feminism is valid, you're just trying to discredit women's voices because you don't find them attractive. There are old, bald and yet still  completely  respected male politicians out there and yet women are expected to spend time and money on making themselves physically appealing before they even dare open their mouths, how is that not an excellent example of why we needed feminism? This is a distraction tactic. They comment on your appearance instead of what you're actually saying to 1) make you feel self-conscious and focus on the wrong thing so 2) you don't realise they didn't even comment on or register the actual problem. It invalidates everything you're saying while also forcing you to conform to what you're against. They are proving us right, by focusing on appearances rather than words, which is what femin...

A genuine question.

Do people really look at how adolescent and pre-adolescent girls are incredibly prone to anxiety, eating disorders, self-esteem problems and self-mutilation, the depression usually caused by all of the above, how girls report that their first thought about their weight was before 12 years old, and think that all of this just comes out of nowhere? Do people really think that it has no connection to how our society treats girls? To how, from when they can comprehend visual information, they’re processing subconscious messages that say they are nothing more than their  bodies , their  beauty , their  appeal?  To how, the culture of social media is constantly saying “Look like this YouTube beauty guru, look like this model, like this actress” and then switch it around and say “No, girls dress like this because they want to. Girls do their makeup this way because they want to. Girls act this way because they want to.” Why would they want to? Why do you have 13-year...
